Thermoplans own Roastery!
After months of preparation and training, we are pleased to announce the opening of our in-house roastery in Weggis.
The idea was born from our ambition to deepen our coffee expertise across the entire bean-to-cup journey. For more than 50 years, Thermoplan has successfully developed and manufactured fully automatic coffee machines. Now, we are taking the next step upstream: understanding the coffee bean itself. Because roasting has a decisive impact on the flavour of every cup of coffee.
The Thermoplan Roastery serves as an internal centre of expertise. Here, we continuously gain hands-on experience, expand our know-how, and develop a deep understanding of the entire roasting process. This knowledge strengthens internal synergies and directly contributes to the ongoing development of our products and solutions.
The roastery produces all the coffee we need in Weggis: from test batches for our machines, to the beans used in our Café unique and the restaurant Taste, and the blends for our internal coffee areas. Every bean and every roast is handled with passion and precision, for a flavour that inspires.
But who actually ensures that all the beans are roasted to perfection? Get to know Rolf, Head of Roastery:
"After 13 years at Thermoplan, where I worked in various positions in R&D, I was immediately excited by the idea of setting up a Thermoplan Roastery. The idea of gaining an even better understanding of the entire bean-to-cup process was something I couldn't let go of. That was in the spring of 2025. Soon afterwards, I was able to devote myself intensively to roasting - from training courses and sensor technology to practical experience with partners.
The roaster was delivered and installed in November 2025. Thanks to careful planning, we were able to roast the first coffee for Café unique and the break rooms as early as January 2026. The switch to home-roasted coffee went smoothly and brought a new, direct connection to every cup we serve. My main task in the roastery is, of course, the roasting itself. After each session, the coffee is bottled, stored and the roastery is carefully cleaned. The finishing work takes at least as much time as the actual roasting.
My favorite coffee? I like to treat myself to a cappuccino in the morning and a double espresso after lunch. I'm still discovering which type of coffee will be my personal favorite. At the moment, I'm particularly attracted to intense chocolate and nutty notes with subtle fruity aromas and a slight acidity. I'm looking forward to getting to know many more exciting flavors through my daily work."
Our Roastery is, of course, not exclusively for Thermoplan employees. Partners and customers are warmly invited to join live roasting sessions. In addition, the Roastery will become a permanent part of our company tours going forward.
