Thermoplan relies on long-term and trusting partnerships throughout the entire business process. For the new building, we also opted for existing partnerships and placed orders directly. All contractors were already known and involved in the project.
Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) is a collaborative construction project process in which the relevant participants are involved in the construction and planning process from the outset. They jointly bear both the benefits and the risks. IPD requires more than just people, technology and processes. The term requires a new culture of cooperation.
IPD embodies the project goals and creates consequences for success or failure. It gives all project participants control and makes them responsible for the overall project result - not just for their individual performance.

Urs von Arx is not only CEO of HHM, but as a planner of unique, he has already integrated digitalization into the design phase. As all those involved in the construction (clients, planners, contractors, suppliers, etc.) were brought on board as early as possible, a large amount of information was available. All (construction) data from the various contractors was generated, collected and implemented in a digital twin of the new Plant 5 building.
In traditional construction projects, the individual phases run sequentially, with the trades only coming on board once they have completed their own tasks. "That's no way to create innovation," says Urs von Arx of this approach. "If the whole process is understood by everyone involved through the digital twin, more thoughts, experience and passion are brought in - and these have a correspondingly positive influence on the result. Digitalization forces us to constantly question processes. Digital construction enables me as the client to make better decisions," says Adrian Steiner, explaining the approach, which required courage on the part of the client and planner, but delivered a significantly higher quality end result. Avoiding communication breakdowns and a clash of skills and tackling the individual levels together meant that quality, costs and time were brought into line for everyone involved. The success achieved together was also shared, which was reflected not least in the salaries of the contractors.
The new building was planned extensively digitally. We took advantage of the opportunities and possibilities offered by the new technologies.
